
One-Year Garment Construction Program for (Adults)
Subject: Clothing & Textiles – Garment Construction
Duration: 1 Year (Approx. 36 weeks, divided into 3 terms)
Level: Beginner → Intermediate Adults
Goal: Equip learners with practical garment construction skills for personal use, family, or income generation.
Term 1 (Weeks 1–12): Foundations of Sewing
Week 1–2: Introduction to Clothing & Textiles
- Objectives: Identify fabrics, classify natural vs synthetic, understand fabric uses.
- Activities: Fabric handling, group discussions, fabric sorting.
Week 3–4: Sewing Tools & Equipment
- Objectives: Identify, handle, and use sewing tools safely.
- Activities: Sewing kit exploration, tool-matching games, tool-care demonstrations.
Week 5–6: Body Measurements
- Objectives: Take accurate body measurements.
- Activities: Pair practice with tape measure, recording results.
Week 7–8: Fabric Preparation & Cutting
- Objectives: Mark and cut fabric based on measurements.
- Activities: Demonstration, learners cut apron/skirt fabric.
Week 9–10: Basic Hand Sewing Stitches
- Objectives: Thread needle, tie knots, sew running stitch, backstitch, hemming.
- Activities: Sewing practice on scraps, stitching competitions.
Week 11–12: Project 1 – Simple Apron or Skirt
- Objectives: Apply measurement, cutting, and stitching to complete a garment.
- Activities: Learners construct apron/skirt, present finished work.
Term 2 (Weeks 13–24): Garment Construction Skills
Week 13–14: Sewing Machine Introduction
- Objectives: Identify machine parts, practice threading and safety.
- Activities: Machine demonstration, practice stitching on paper/fabric.
Week 15–16: Seams and Finishing
- Objectives: Practice plain seam, open seam, French seam.
- Activities: Samples sewn and labeled.
Week 17–18: Fastenings
- Objectives: Attach buttons, hooks, snaps, simple zippers.
- Activities: Practice fastening samples.
Week 19–20: Garment Construction – Blouse/Top
- Objectives: Draft and cut a simple blouse pattern, begin construction.
- Activities: Group cutting, step-by-step sewing.
Week 21–22: Garment Assembly & Fitting
- Objectives: Join garment parts, check for fitting.
- Activities: Learners wear/test garments, make alterations.
Week 23–24: Project 2 – Simple Blouse/Top Completion
- Objectives: Finish blouse with neat seams and fastenings.
- Activities: Presentation of finished blouses.
Term 3 (Weeks 25–36): Advanced Garments & Business Skills
Week 25–26: Skirt/Trousers Construction
- Objectives: Draft, cut, and sew simple skirt or trousers.
- Activities: Measurement review, garment assembly.
Week 27–28: Dressmaking
- Objectives: Construct a simple dress with darts/shaping.
- Activities: Cutting, stitching, fitting sessions.
Week 29–30: Decorative Finishes
- Objectives: Add trims, embroidery, appliqué for garment enhancement.
- Activities: Practice decorative stitches and embellishments.
Week 31–32: Laundry & Garment Care
- Objectives: Read care labels, sort laundry, practice pressing and ironing.
- Activities: Care label matching, ironing demonstrations.
Week 33–34: Entrepreneurship in Garment Making
- Objectives: Identify opportunities in tailoring, pricing garments, customer service.
- Activities: Group discussions, role-play on selling clothes.
Week 35–36: Final Project – Personal Garment & Fashion Show
- Objectives: Learners design, cut, and sew a personal garment (their choice).
- Activities: End-of-year showcase where learners model their garments.
Assessment Across the Year
- Formative: Observation, oral questioning, stitching samples, peer feedback.
- Summative: Completed projects (apron, blouse, skirt/dress, final garment).
