
Physical Education course Summary
Physical education at all levels, help students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes,values, and behaviors to initiate and maintain a physically active lifestyle that will continue into and through adulthood. Students are encouraged to use physical activity as a means to develop personal initiative, responsibility and a sense of caring about others and community. The subject explicitly teaches the necessary knowledge and skills for working with and relating to others, and provides the learning opportunities to develop these skills. It enables the development of leadership and teamwork skills and encourages students to transfer knowledge to other learning areas.
Course Objectives/Learner outcomes:
Upon satisfactory completion of this course participants should be able to:
- Display interpersonal skills such as assertive communication, conflict resolution, cooperation and leadership and be able to act responsibly and contribute effectively to groups and teams.
- Better identify, avoid and manage potential health risk, enhance their mental health and well-being and make better plans for their future in and/or outside of sports.
- Effectively demonstrate and apply a range of skills and techniques required when participating in different sports.
- Apply knowledge, analyze issues and solve basic problems as it relates to the skeletal and muscular system, sports injuries, weight control, stress and exercise.
- Identify and appreciate varied careers/professions that are sports related and can be achieved through participation in physical Education.
